Dodo birds were flightless, and supposedly evolved from a lost pigeon. It's considered one of the first to go extinct due to humans. (Not saying others weren't)
What's interesting about the Dodo is that it originally had no predators on Mauritius Island; not until humans came along.
It is speculated that it wasn’t necessary for it to evolve or develop defenses due to its last habitat.
It makes me wonder...
We sit safe and sound believing that everything will always remain the same. When in fact whether through natural disaster or the evolution of another apex predator; life on Earth has consistently been hit with the inevitable. Change.
Businesses can sit for hundreds of years; even pass down fortunes through generations. However age alone does not equal survival.
Evolution does.
With data we can shod ourselves with the predicament of the Dodo bird prior to extinction. We can observe other birds and species on the island. We can analyze probable threats. With imagination, we can think of ways to protect ourselves based on weaknesses.
If the Dodo didn't develop it’s lazy persona based on the premise that it didn’t have a predator as a cause to evolve...
Perhaps evolution had no chance against the greatest and most heinous predator to date.
